Commonwealth Care's billing cycle changed

Submitted by Meg at CP on October 7, 2008 - 11:23am.

Commonwealth Care has begun billing members for current coverage. Previously, members were billed for future coverage: bills they received in August were for their premium in October. Now bills for December premiums will be delivered by the 10th of December and will be due by the 25th of the same month.

In September, Commonwealth Care sent out notices explaining this change with the final advance bill. Members will not receive a bill in October or November, since the premiums for these months were billed already in August and September.

The termination process for past due premiums remains the same. The first payment missed will be included with the next billing, with a notice that the account is 30 days past due. If no payment is made then, a 60 day past due notice will be sent followed by a termination notice.

Members who are having trouble paying premiums can still apply for a premium reduction or waiver and/or call Commonwealth Care Customer Service at 1-877-MA-ENROLL to arrange a payment plan.
