Commonwealth Choice enrollment starts May 1st

Submitted by ADMIN Meg on April 27, 2007 - 1:38pm.

Commonwealth Choice, the second health coverage option offered by the Commonwealth Connector, opens enrollment May 1, 2007. Commonwealth Choice plans are unsubsidized and are available to uninsured people who earn more than 300% FPL, as well as to small group employers. Click here for an overview of Commonwealth Choice by the Commonwealth Connector.

Some factors to consider when looking at Choice plans:

  • Plan types: Bronze, Silver or Gold
  • The costs, which vary with each plan and each level of coverage
    • Premiums: the monthly charge for plan membership
    • Co-pays: usually a fixed, tiered amount paid for prescriptions and doctor’s office visits
    • Co-insurance: a percentage charge for health services based on the services' total cost

Applying for Commonwealth Choice

How do we direct our patients to plans and costs? How do our patients apply?

Use 877-MA-Enroll

I just called the Connector's 877 line, and was told that the only way to enroll in Choice is to call 877-MA-Enroll. For more information on costs and coverage the link in the post above should help. The "Choice" website: www.MAhealthconnector.org is up, but does not offer any details yet. We will be posting more info on enrollment as it becomes available.

Let me know how it goes!
