Free help for clients filing state and federal tax forms

Submitted by Meg at CP on February 26, 2009 - 1:38pm.

Low- and moderate-income Massachusetts residents can get free help filling out state and federal income taxes. Volunteers trained in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) or Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs can help clients understand Massachusetts’ Individual Mandate for health insurance and whether it has been met. These volunteers can also screen people for eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which could save people up to $4,824.

Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) has created a checklist that explains what Massachusetts residents should bring to make the most of their tax help sessions. (PDF) Below you will find links to sites offering this assistance.

Hi Joan, Are you saying that

Hi Joan,
Are you saying that you did not get any paperwork from the Medical Security Program (MSP) for your taxes... and you have questions about how to report what you've spent on health insurance on your tax return? I'll email you to clarify what the problem is, because I'm no tax expert -- and then if we can find an answer to your problem, I will post it here and include it in our MSP information.
Thanks,
Laura
