The Massachusetts Legislature continued their support for Outreach and enrollment "mini-grants," maintaining the current level of $3.5 million in the fiscal year 2009 proposed budget (PDF, section 4000-0352, page 69). The legislature also allotted money to support health access across the Commonwealth, including funding to create an Office of Health Equity to address racial and ethnic health disparities in our state and for oral health initiatives.
The proposed budget now goes to Governor Patrick. The Governor may accept the budget as it is, and sign it into law, or may use a line-item veto to eliminate some spending. The legislature may override vetoes if they have enough votes.

Thank you to all the allies, both in the Statehouse and around the Commonwealth, who work so hard to ensure access to health care.
