Terminations for non-payment of premiums begin June 13

Submitted by Meg at CP on June 12, 2008 - 1:14pm.

As of June 13, 2008, premium-paying members of MassHealth and Children’s Medical Security Plan (CMSP) whose premiums are more than 60 days overdue will start to lose their benefits.

Members at risk for losing benefits:

  • must currently be in a premium-paying category:
  • - CMSP families over 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL)
    - MassHealth members over 150% FPL
  • must have balances (of any amount) that are more than 60 days late

MassHealth included a special notice (PDF) in these members’ June bills. The notice, which is yellow, told members that MassHealth has placed them on a payment plan; failure to pay what is due on the payment will result in members losing benefits in about 30 days.

The Massachusetts Law Reform Institute offers some specific suggestions (PDF) for how you can help your clients facing termination.

The MassHealth Training Forum released this notice about the terminations (PDF).
