Instructions for using WellPoint Part D contingency plan

Submitted by kari on June 21, 2006 - 10:47am.

Outreach workers have reported that some clients are having difficulty getting pharmacists to enroll them through the WellPoint Point of Sale contingency plan for Medicare Part D. The plan is designed to cover the immediate drug needs of Medicaid members eligible for but not enrolled in Medicare Part D.

Pharmacists may not realize the program is still in effect, or may not understand how to invoice it. Newly dual-eligible clients may benefit from taking the following information with them to show their pharmacist.

  1. Click here for a May 25 letter from CMS to State Medicaid Directors outlining the role of the WellPoint Point of Sale contingency plan.
  2. Click here for a 3-page instruction sheet for pharmacists with step-by-step directions for using the WellPoint plan.
