MassHealth lists documents accepted as citizenship proof

Submitted by Community Partners on July 5, 2006 - 3:39pm.

The 2005 Federal Deficit Reduction Act requires Medicaid recipients who state they are US citizens or nationals to prove both citizenship/national status and identity. A few documents, like a US passport, prove both. Other acceptable documents prove only one; many applicants will have to produce two or more documents.

As of July 1, MassHealth applicants will have 30-60 days to produce necessary documents; current members must produce documents when they are up for re-determination.

MassHealth has released an outline of the new requirements with useful telephone numbers and a detailed list of acceptable documentation.
