Guide to federal benefits for immigrants

Submitted by Community Partners on February 22, 2007 - 1:54pm.

A comprehensive guide to Immigrant Eligibility for Federal Programs is available from the National Immigrant Law Center (NILC). This national guide covers the breadth of federal benefits and breaks eligibility down by immigration status.

Immigration status does not affect your eligibility for MassHealth, but may affect the type of benefits MassHealth provides. Certain MassHealth programs are state funded rather than federally funded, giving the Commonwealth more flexibility in covering immigrants. For example, legal immigrants who are elderly or disabled are eligible for MassHealth Essential. Likewise, immigrant victims of domestic violence who make this known are eligible for the full range of MassHealth benefits.
