A Kaiser Family Foundation report documents the negative effects of the cuts to MassHealth dental coverage for adults in 2003. It finds that members reported ongoing pain, health complications, and decreased opportunities for advancement. Cuts also put increased strain on safety net providers, while offering minimal financial benefit for the state due to cost shifting. Read the report. (PDF, 1MB)

There is some good news though! As part of the legal settlement between the Commonwealth and Health Care For All, starting soon, MassHealth dental services and eligibility will be improved and reimbursement rates increased. Click here for the specific items already agreed to by the parties. Also, resulting from legislative victories, it is expected that your clients who are pregnant and mothers of children under 3 will re-gain eligibility later this year.
