Part D "post-transition plan" assistance

Submitted by Anonymous on April 3, 2006 - 6:14pm.

On March 31, Part D plans were no longer required by the federal government to honor non-formulary prescriptions. Individuals whose plans do not cover their drugs must now change prescriptions or request exceptions for those drugs. CMS has released fact sheets to clarify members' rights and offers a guide to the appeal process.

In cases where exceptions are not granted, Private Patient Assistance Programs (PAP) can be a resource. The Health Assistance Partnership has created an easy-to-use and comprehensive guide to nationwide PAPs.
