Commonwealth Care MMCO plan details

Submitted by admin-julia on October 5, 2006 - 2:10pm.

As eligible individuals begin enrolling in Commonwealth Care, some important details about the plans are being clarified. Last week the Connector Board released the expanded service areas for the four Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MMCOs) providing coverage, and identified the lowest and second-lowest priced plans. These are the plans clients will be auto-enrolled into if they do not affirmatively choose a plan.

Whether a plan is affirmatively chosen or auto-assigned, clients have 60 days to change plans. Clients may change plans by calling Commonwealth Care customer service (operated by Maximus) at 1-877-623-6765 (TTY 1-877-623-7773). After 60 days, a person may change plans if they meet certain criteria; if these are not met, the next time to make a change is during Commonwealth Care open enrollment (date to be determined).

Typically coverage will start the month after enrollment; for individuals who enroll before October 26th, coverage should start on November 1st. If medical services are needed before coverage starts, the Uncompensated Care Pool remains as a safety net.

Service Areas for Commonwealth Care Plans

Last week we posted the Connector's chart about Commonwealth Care plan coverage areas to our website. We quickly heard from you that some inaccuracies existed; specifically we learned that Network Health is not contracted with Cooley Dickinson Hospital. I spoke with a Connector staff person who told me the Connector was aware of this, and that no one in the Northampton area would be auto-enrolled in Network Health.
