State alerts taxpayers to the individual mandate on health insurance

Submitted by Meg at CP on May 7, 2007 - 12:54pm.

The Connector and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue have mailed the first batch of postcards informing taxpayers about the individual mandate. The new law requires that by December 31, 2007, Massachusetts residents age 18 and older be covered by health insurance that meets minimum standards set by the Connector. The postcards also describe penalties for failure to prove coverage and give information about where uninsured people can get health insurance. Postcards will be sent to almost 3 million people by mid-June.
