January 4 Western HAN: riding the mandate wave

Blog - January 22, 2008 - 5:47pm - Michael DeChiara - Community Partners - Amherst

December was intense... this is the 'take-away' from our Health Access Network meetings in Amherst and Boston this month. Across the board, people providing enrollment assistance in hospitals, community health centers and community organizations were faced with a huge number of people trying to get health insurance coverage before the Dec. 31 deadline. John Bergeron from Hilltowns Community Health Center got the prize for the latest request for assistance; he received several phone messages on the evening of December 31 from people looking to comply with the mandate.

Help senior, disabled immigrants keep MassHealth

News - Submitted by Anonymous on November 9, 2004 - 6:22pm.

$2 million is still available to continue MassHealth Essential coverage for elderly and disabled legal immigrants, even though it was supposed to end October 31. Let EOHHS Secretary Preston know how important maintaining coverage is with a quick fax or web message. Some suggestions:

Identify the subject as 'MassHealth for Immigrants'
Include major points:

  • The $2 million is there and can only be used for this purpose
  • Those covered are eligible seniors and disabled residents with identified health needs
  • Eliminating coverage would disrupt ongoing care, reduce the use of primary and preventive care, and increase the use of emergency rooms, increasing overall costs
